NBC unveiled its new Friday block last night with the return of Grimm and the launch of Dracula at 10 p.m. Fast National returns give the freshman series a 1.8 rating with adults 18-49 and 5.3 million viewers. The network’s first scripted push into the hour in some time, it won the hour in the demo and held 100 percent of its lead-in. Grimm (1.8 adults) was up two-tenths from last fall’s Friday return (1.6 adults). Dateline (1.3 adults) started the night, even from last week’s two-hour episode, giving NBC a winning 1.6 rating among adults 18-49 for the night and 5.8 million viewers.

Jessica De Gouw gained her first wide exposure to American TV viewers last season with a recurring part on “Arrow” as The Huntress. Her profile is about to get higher.

The 25-year-old Australian actress stars on NBC’s “Dracula” — which premieres at 10 p.m. ET Friday (Oct. 25) — as Mina Murray, a young woman in 19th century London who the title character (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) believes may be the reincarnation of his long-dead wife. Her startling resemblance to his lost love throws a wrench in his plans to exact vengeance on the people who cursed him.

De Gouw’s captivating performance as Mina makes her one of Zap2it’s Ones to Watch for 2013-14. Get to know her a little better with our questionnaire:

What’s the current home-screen picture on your phone?
A pic of the “Dracula” cast being wildly inappropriate.

What are your can’t-miss TV shows?
[Co-star] Katie McGrath got me hooked on the “Great British Bake Off.” It’s ruining my life.

What’s a song that always makes you happy when you hear it?
“No Diggity” by Blackstreet

What’s the most embarrassing song on your iPod?
I have about 4 albums of Disney songs, but the embarrassing part is that I know each song word for word, and have dances choreographed for most.

Zombie apocalypse or alien invasion?
Alien invasion! I actually have a very real, irrational fear of zombies.

Do you have any current pop-culture obsessions?
I am still desperate to do a Harlem Shake. I know that’s kinda over, but I just think I need to do it. Oliver Jackson-Cohen and I tried over and over to convince the producers of “Dracula” to let us do one on set in full period costume. It’s a work in progress.

Count Dracula, Mina Murray, Jonathan Harker, Renfield and the other familiar characters from the world’s most famous vampire story will return to the pop-culture forefront on Friday, when NBC launches “Dracula” as a weekly series. In this latest spin on Bram Stoker’s vampire classic, Jonathan Rhys Meyers stars as Dracula, with Jessica De Gouw as Mina, Oliver Jackson-Cohen as Harker and Nonso Anozie as Renfield.

“‘Everybody knows about ‘Dracula,’ don’t they?,” De Gouw said. “When I was in drama school in Australia, we did a stage version of it, and I played Renfield, of all things. That’s a little different to our show.

“Actually, when I did it at university, I thought Renfield was the most exciting character, and I didn’t care so much for Mina, but, reading this script for the show, I think Mina is very, very interesting. Mina’s got a lot to offer, and I was stoked to play her.”

This new iteration of “Dracula” puts a fresh spin on the material. Dracula, aka Vlad Tepes, is forced to join forces with his nemesis, vampire hunter Abraham Van Helsing (Thomas Kretschmann), to topple a shadowy organization called the Order of the Dragon. To do so, Dracula poses as American entrepreneur Alexander Grayson, who supposedly aims to bring science to Victorian London.

Meanwhile, Dracula makes the acquaintance of Mina, realizing immediately that she is the reincarnation of Ilona, his greatest love from centuries earlier. The problem is that she’s engaged to Harker, an ambitious journalist intrigued by “Grayson’s” sudden presence in London. Then there’s Lucy Westenra (Katie McGrath), Mina’s best friend, who harbors romantic feelings for her.
